Code of Conduct

  • Staying in touch – Please keep us updated regarding your circumstances and availability. Communication is the most important part of your journey with Step by Step – the more you update your availability, the easier it is for us to place you! You can contact us via:

  1. Telephone – our landline (01772 713819) is available 24/7
  2. Via Text message – to your personal consultant
  3. Email – if you email admin@stepbystepeducation.co.uk your email will be distributed to all of the Step by Step team and therefore will not be missed
  4. Come in and say ‘Hello’ – If you’re passing, feel free to pop in anytime for a catch up and coffee!

  • Dress Code – Remember, first impressions are everything! Many schools have strictly defined pupil uniform regulations and accepted standards of staff dress. We recommend male teachers to wear a shirt and tie. Please do not wear jeans, low cut tops, very short skirts, t-shirts, very high heels, flip flops, trainers, elaborate jewellery or tattoos on display.

  • Exceptions to the dress code – If there is a PE lesson on the timetable, please take with you a tracksuit and trainers to change into. Please have these with you, just in case.

  • Punctuality – Please aim to arrive no later than 8:30am if the assignment is pre-booked. This will give you the opportunity to find out about the school’s routines and policies/procedures you need to be aware of before the children arrive. If you are running late – please telephone us so we can advise the school

  • On arrival – Please do not forget to take you Step by Step ID card, your current DBS certificate and an extra form of ID (Driving licence/Passport). Many schools won’t let you through the door without these for security reasons. Please also remember to sign in and out of the school visitor book for fire/security reasons.

  • Assignment Preparations – Please do take your own resources with you in case there are no lesson plans left by the class teacher. In Primary you are expected to mark the work in accordance with the school’s marking policy. It’s also a good idea to leave a handover note about what you have covered and details of any issues (e.g. behavioural) For ongoing/long-term assignments, you will be expected to take full responsibility for the classes you are teaching as you are on a contract (e.g. planning, marking, assessing, attending staff meetings, report writing)

  • Absence procedure – If you are unable to attend an assignment due to illness you must inform us at Step by Step no later than 7:30am on the morning of the assignment.

  • Timesheets – It is your responsibility to complete your timesheet for the work you have completed each day.  This must be submitted to the school or setting and approved by no later than 12.00 noon the following Monday via our Timesheet Portal facility.

  • Pay, Tax and National Insurance – You will be paid for the previous week’s work each Friday into your Bank or Building Society via BACS by our payroll department or our partner Umbrella companies.

All the team at Step by Step are looking forward to working with you!!
